The Exit Code

You may not need a secret door or an escape into another life. The real exit begins with a decision you can make exactly where you are standing.

When life becomes unbearable, the first thought is often to get away. A different job, city, relationship, or identity may be the right step, but none guarantees that old fear and familiar patterns will not travel with you. The Exit Code distinguishes escape from conscious departure. Escape is driven by panic and aims only to be somewhere else. Conscious departure begins by understanding what you no longer wish to create and accepting responsibility for the direction that follows. The exit is therefore neither a magical place nor an instruction hidden outside you. It is the moment you stop seeing yourself as a powerless component of the situation and make the first honest decision. The door may still be far away. The key is already in the hand of the person who has decided not to keep living by the old program.
