The world does not cease to exist when we look away. Yet within our experience, whatever receives our attention gains the sharpest detail. The album opens by asking how much of reality ever reaches us at all.
Render Distance begins with an ordinary experience. You enter a familiar room, focus on one conversation, and the rest of the space seems to recede. Nothing around you has disappeared, but it no longer occupies the sharpest part of your awareness. The song uses a virtual world loading into view as a metaphor for attention, not as proof that reality is created by looking at it. At every moment, far more information reaches us than conscious experience can hold. Whatever we attend to therefore feels more vivid, urgent, and important than everything left in the background. The album takes its first step without asking us to escape the world. It asks us to notice the frame through which the world appears. Once you recognize what is coming into focus, you can begin to wonder what remains outside the frame and why.
